DESCRIPTIONThe Washington, DC area office is seeking an Associate Manager for Tour de Cure (cycling) events with demonstrated experience to identify, recruit, cultivate, and recognize volunteers for their accomplishments. The volunteer/staff team is responsible for the achievement of fund-raising goals related to corporate sponsorship, cyclist and team recruitment, and wrap-around events. The desired candidate would be a success-oriented self starter with experience in working with and through groups to achieve desired outcomes. Cold call sales experience and customer relationship building experiences are highly desirable. Strong presentation, oral and written skills are required. Must know how to close the deal, confirm mutual understandings, and manage volunteer participation to successful outcomes.


REQUIREMENTS* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
* Three years work experience
* Must pay close attention to details, be able to manage multiple activities, and describe ADA's vision of successful events to volunteers
* Familiarity with fund-raising for cycling events/rides is strongly preferred
* Must have experience in working with diverse volunteer groups from many employment and socio-economic backgrounds
* Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends
* Access to a car as frequent, daily travel is required
* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

Tour de Cure is our annual signature fundraising cycling event. The Southeast Michigan Tour de Cure is currently seeking a Marketing Intern to help with our 2010 Tour de Cure taking place on June 5.
Position: Tour de Cure Marketing Intern
Intern Needed: December 2009 ? March 2010
April 2010 ? June 2010
Hours: 15 hours per week (flexible)
The Marketing Intern will be responsible for the marketing and promotion of the Tour de Cure. Duties include project management, strategic planning of brochure distribution, street team recruitment and management, social networking, research, project development, data entry and mailing projects. No experience necessary, but attention to detail and accountability required and some computer knowledge a plus.
Benefits: Gain experience in the following areas: special event planning, writing, developing and helping to implement a marketing plan for a $325,000+ event. This internship is a great way to start your career in Marketing and the Non-Profit industry.

The ADA seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public service. This intern will provide support to ADA staff and gain valuable skills and insights while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach for American Diabetes Association events in Miami-Dade.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
? Assisting with logistical planning of Community Programs with pre- and post-event follow-up.
? Assisting with implementation of marketing strategies for event.
? Researching charitable programs of major local corporations.
? Working closely with volunteers.
? Utilize communication tools to track response rates, generate and engage prospective sponsors and strategic partners.
? Work with staff to collect and solicit in-kind donations for events.
ADA internships are unpaid, though college credit may apply. The hours are part-time and the schedule can be flexible.

Under the supervision of the Tour de Cure staff, the intern will be responsible for various duties including:

* Design and prepare event marketing materials
* Maintain event website
* Set up meetings and make fundraising asks

* Assist with special programs and other ADA events
* Assist in managing volunteer committee

4. Post event assistance ? with the event planning team, develop a post-event strategy in distributing thank you letters, prizes, sponsorship recognition, press releases, etc.
5. Other duties as needed ? support the event planning team in daily activities which could include telephone calls, running errands, putting together event kits, mailing, etc.
6. Assist with other ADA programs/events as needed ? send out press releases, update databases, assist with mailings, telephone calls, running errands.


REQUIREMENTSExpected Competencies &amp; Proficiency Levels:

Sales experience, including cold calling and customer relationship building is desirable. Excellent planning, organizational and follow-up skills are required. DESCRIPTIONThe Maryland office of the American Diabetes Association, the nation's leading health organization focused on diabetes, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Manager of Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes. Responsibilities include the planning and successful execution of the Baltimore Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes, the identification, recruitment and cultivation of volunteers as well as corporate sponsors and teams.
Qualified candidates will have a proven track record of planning and executing special events or large projects involving logistical management and intensive customer service. Candidates will also have experience recruiting and working with volunteers and corporate decision makers to achieve desired outcomes. Candidate will be a self-motivated, high-energy, results-oriented person with experience in working with and through groups to achieve desired outcomes. Candidate must be a team player who is tenaciously dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. Must know how to confirm mutual understandings, close the deal, pay attention to detail and manage volunteer participation to successful outcomes. Individual will manage key aspects of the Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes event including revenue and expense budget, volunteer management, corporate engagement, team and donor development. A key element of the job involves retention of existing participant base, acquisition of new participants and coaching and mentoring of participants. Individual is accountable for the overall growth, development and success of Step Out in Baltimore. Sales experience and customer relationship building is highly desirable. Excellent planning, organizational and follow-up skills are required.


REQUIREMENTS* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
* Minimum of 3 consecutive years of similar work experience
* Experience in overseeing large walks, over 500K is a plus.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills are essential
* Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
* Proficiency with MS Office suite, on-line fundraising systems, planning systems and applications
* Familiarity with financial reports and analysis
* Experience with income and expense procedures and reporting
* Ability to work as a team player yet manage individual tasks
* Ability to attend some weekday evening meetings and some weekend work
* Must have access to an automobile as local travel is required
* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

DESCRIPTIONThe American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public health/diabetes. The Step Out Intern will provide support to ADA staff and gain valuable skills and insights on event planning, fundraising, programmatic activities, and volunteer coordination. This position is unpaid.
THE POSITION IS IN OUR DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE.
The internship will begin Immediately and go thru Spring semester.
This internship will enable a skilled student to assist the ADA by working on the premier fund-raising event entitled Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes. The selected intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in event management, fundraising, sponsorship development, and community outreach. Under the supervision of the Step Out staff, the intern will be responsible for various duties including:

FUNDRAISING &amp; EVENT PLANNING
* Assist with planning &amp; implementation of a special event
* Assist with donor tracking and follow-up
* Draft letters to prospective sponsors and special guests
* Design and prepare event materials
* Set up meetings and make fundraising asks
* Attend professional and community meetings to recruit interested parties to participate in Step Out
* Assist with special programs and other ADA events
* Follow up with constituent requests
* Organize day-of-event volunteer responsibilities
* Assist in managing volunteer database


REQUIREMENTS* Passion for public health issues and the Mission of ADA
* Experience in fundraising and event planning
* Similar work experience preferred
* Ability to see the "big picture"
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously
* Must be a currently enrolled, full-time, undergraduate student enrolled in a U.S. college/university who will be returning to college as a full-time. Full-time is defined as at least 12 credit hours.
* Time commitment of at least 10 hours per week (M-F and hours are flexible).

DESCRIPTIONThe Phoenix, AZ office of the American Diabetes Association has a full-time opportunity for a Coordinator to become a part of our team. This individual will provide event support for our signature events.
Specific duties include:
* Provide special events support to staff (event logistical and volunteer management, report processing, list maintenance, document creation and merging, cultivating relationships with event participants, proofreading and filing).
* Enter and manage critical event data.
* Processing of accounts receivable and accounts payable
* Support donor recognition programs
* Ensure day to day smooth running of the office

This position requires a candidate with strong event management and data entry skills and requires the ability to multi-task. Strong customer service skills are required, as this position interacts frequently with association volunteers, participants and staff.

* Two to three years of administrative support or event coordination experience preferred
* Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, email &amp; Internet

DESCRIPTION
This temporary position will provide public relations support to the Government Affairs and Advocacy Division of the American Diabetes Association including services in support of grassroots advocacy, state and federal legislative advocacy, and legal (anti-discrimination) advocacy. The position will report to the Managing Director, Communications; however, the candidate in this position is an integral member of the Advocacy team, and will be responsible for specific activities in support of grassroots advocacy. This position may also serve, from time to time, as back-up support in the Communications Division should the need rise.

Communications-specific responsibilities will include:

* Write and distribute news releases and op-ed pieces

* Develop talking points and prepare high-level volunteer spokespersons for interviews 
* Coordinate staff and volunteer participation in news conferences

* PromoteADA's advocacy accomplishments and goals to the media 
* Produce satellite media tours and video news releases, as appropriate

* Develop summary reports to evaluate the effectiveness of media outreach efforts conducted to support Government Affairs and Advocacy activities
